Yay, a film with a title almost more precarious than that “Borat” film will be getting an 800 screen release in March 2007. From the press release:
“Adult Swim’s highly anticipated theatrical film “Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film for Theaters” is scheduled to hit movie theaters in March 2007. Written, produced and directed by Matt Maiellaro and Dave Willis, the movie will be distributed by First Look Pictures and marks the studio’s initial theatrical foray into animation, as well as Adult Swim’s first feature under the Williams Street banner.
“Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film for Theaters” is an action-adventure epic that reveals the mysterious origins of Meatwad, Frylock and Master Shake. When an immortal piece of exercise equipment threatens the balance of galactic peace, it is up to the Aqua Teen Hunger Force to run away from it. Peril escalates when the Plutonians team up with the Cybernetic Ghost of Christmas Past to strive for ultimate control of the sinister deadly device.
“Matt and Dave’s ‘Aqua Teen’ movie shows how edgy, inventive, and hilarious contemporary animation can be,” says First Look Studios Chairman, CEO and President Henry Winterstern. “Given Matt and Dave’s unique vision and their boundless imagination, I know First Look is the right company to bring this cult favorite to a completely new audience.”
“The first ‘Aqua Teen Hunger Force’ feature is truly one of a kind,” says Ruth Vitale, President of First Look Pictures. “Meatwad, Frylock and Master Shake simply demand the big screen.”
“We’ve enjoyed tremendous success with Adult Swim’s ‘Aqua Teen Hunger Force’ on both television and DVD over the past five years and we are excited to extend this franchise and bring Meatwad, Frylock and Master Shake to the big screen,” said John Friend, Senior Vice President of Cartoon Network Enterprises, the global consumer products arm of Cartoon Network. “We’re pleased to have First Look on board and I could not imagine a more ideal distribution partner to work with us to bring the next chapter of ‘Aqua Teen Hunger Force’ to movie theaters across the country.”
“Never before will the silver screen be engaged in such a celebration of animation,” said creators Maiellaro and Willis simultaneously and in unison.
