“ANCESTORS” TO SCREEN IN DALLAS

By Film Threat Staff | June 28, 2002

The Video Association of Dallas will present a special screening at the Lakewood Theater of Ancestors in the Americas by acclaimed filmmaker Loni Ding on Sunday, June 30th at 7:30 PM as the next piece in our ongoing Texas Documentary Tour series.
Ding’s major television series, “Ancestors in the Americas,” is the first to offer an in-depth historical understanding of one of the fastest-growing groups of immigrants in the United States – Asian Americans. Stretching the boundaries of traditional documentary to create a “documemoir,” director Ding conjures up first-person archetypes to voice the feelings and attitudes of a different set of pioneers. The result is a series that links history to contemporary issues facing society today. Searching out the shards of history found in archaeological sites, newspapers, household goods, clothing, personal mementos, folklore, songs, cultural rituals, and buildings, “Ancestors” reveals the secret history of those who were absented from the public history.
