AMERICAN CINEMATHEQUE SERVES UP HORROR AND DUMPLINGS

The Cinematheque’s annual Festival of all things supernatural, space age and sinister is back with a vengeance, offering up more brand new, classic and obscure treasures from the U.S. and around the globe!! The series kicks off with a 25th Anniversary screening of Stanley Kubrick’s THE SHINING. New films screening in the Fest are Asian horror movies JU-ON 2 from director Takashi Shimizu (THE GRUDGE), the Pang Bros.’ EYE 2 and Fruit Chan’s wicked Hong Kong thriller DUMPLINGS. A mini-retrospective of maverick Spanish director Alex de la Iglesia features a sneak preview of his newest black comedy, THE PERFECT CRIME (EL CRIMEN PERFECTO), as well as his classic DAY OF THE BEAST. Other events include a 20th Anniversary cast & crew reunion of the zombie comedy RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD, a Boris Karloff tribute (FRANKENSTEIN, BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN, MASK OF FU MANCHU, THE INVISIBLE RAY, BEDLAM), an Italian Pulp Showcase featuring the 30th Anniversary of Dario Argento’s DEEP RED, a genre short film showcase and more great horror, sci-fi and fantasy classics from the past.

The festival takes place August 5 – 21 at the Egyptian Theatre and Aero Theatre in Los Angeles.
