"ALMOST ELVIS" IS THE REAL DEAL

By Film Threat Staff | January 16, 2001

Way back in January of 1935, a soulful lad was born who would grow up to set the music world on fire for decades to come. Some rock icons have fans; Elvis has impersonators.
Filmmaker John Paget spent a year on the blue suede tracks of quite a few not-very elusive Elvis copycats, and the end result of this labor of fasciination/love is the award-winning documentary “Almost Elvis”. The creator muses:
“We found that Elvis impersonation has expanded beyond the traditionally middle-aged male demographic and even women, senior citizens and toddlers are donning jumpsuits and sideburns.”
