ALL BUSINESS: DIRECTOR PATRICK STETTNER

By Chris Gore | January 17, 2002

There are parts of Patrick Stettner’s feature writing and directing debut, Business of Strangers, that will make anyone who has toiled in the corporate world cringe. Because for anyone who has put on a suit and worked in an office, it’s all just a bit too real. “I’ve always been interested in characters engaged in power games and the business world seemed like an appropriate setting,” says Stettner.
The first-time director pulled together an amazing cast for the taut drama. Stockard Channing, Julia Stiles and Frederick Weller deliver performances as intense as they are uncomfortable. “I’ve been fascinated in the lives of businesswomen, and the few times I have seen them portrayed in previous films they’ve always felt somewhat stereotypical — not really an in-depth look at their lives.”
