A FAN LETTER

By Rory L. Aronsky | July 27, 2004

There’s not much to go on here. The format from those DirecTV celebrities-reading-customers’-letters commercials is followed very closely, complete with letter reader Darth Vader making a joke at the end and off-screen audience members laughing in response, or laughing responsibly. It goes either way when it comes to Vader. The letter in question is from a former member of the rebel force who switched to the Empire because he hated the conditions that bore down upon him, such as smelling like Tauntans all the time. So it’s Star Wars related. Fine. But I can see this twenty different other ways since I subscribe to DirecTV and encounter those commercials occasionally. And with the other way, there are more choices. Joan Cusack, John Goodman, Robert Duvall, it has a little more variety.
