The SXSW Film Festival has revealed the Midnighters and Short Films selections for the 2013 event, running March 8-16, 2013. From the official press release:
The South by Southwest (SXSW) Film Conference and Festival is thrilled to announce the highly anticipated features in the Midnighters section, as well as the complete short film lineup, which will debut at this year’s Festival from March 8 – 16, 2013 in Austin, Texas.
For 20 years, the SXSW Midnighters section has embraced and hyped genre filmmaking from veterans and rookies alike, and this year continues in kind. Including four World Premieres, three US Premieres and two films from our favorite festivals, the nine films picked to guide SXSW audiences into the darkness are a healthy assortment of filmmaking styles and span the gamut of genre films today.
106 short films were selected from a record 3,597 short film submissions, an overall increase of 8% over 2012. A comprehensive list of the short films lineup is detailed below, all of which will screen as part of ten curated shorts programs. For more information on Midnighters and the complete SXSW Film Lineup (Features and Shorts), visit http://sxsw.com/film/screenings/film-lineup.
“We work year-round searching for films that will wow our audiences at Midnight. This year we scoured the globe and brought back a batch that we knew would truly satisfy the gore hounds of SXSW,” said SXSW Senior Programmer & Operations Manager Jarod Neece. “Full of scares, sex, madness, laughs, chills and major mind f*cks, we hope there’s a little something for everyone.”
“Every year my admiration for shorts filmmakers grows. We are continually lucky to share the results of the extreme commitment and heart that goes into the creation of these short films,” said Shorts Programmer Claudette Godfrey. “It was harder than ever to narrow down our final program, but this year’s selections beautifully capture, in a multitude of ways, the essence of existence in this very specific moment, while still managing to provide a much wider and relatable commentary across time.”
The SXSW Film Festival will open on Friday, March 8, 2013 with the world premiere of The Incredible Burt Wonderstone. In addition to nine full days of film screenings, SXSW Film will ultimately feature over 150 informative and entertaining featured Conversations, panels, workshops and mentor sessions. The final conference lineup and remaining late addition features will be announced February 13. Visit www.sxsw.com/film for more information and updates.
Joining the previously announced features, the additions to the 2013 SXSW lineup are:
