The 22nd Philadelphia Film Festival, running October 17-27, 2013, has announced its full film lineup. From the official press release:
The Philadelphia Film Society is proud to announce the full line-up of the 22nd Philadelphia Film Festival, spanning from October 17 – October 27 on 6 theater screens throughout the Greater Philadelphia area.
The Festival will open on October 17th with J.C. Chandor’s survival epic, All is Lost, starring Robert Redford, at the Perelman Theater. Jason Reitman’s unusual family portrait, Labor Day, will close the Festival on Friday, October 25th at the newly renovated Prince Music Theater.
“It’s been a fantastic year in film,” says Artistic Director Michael Lerman, “So it’s only fitting that we respond with what I think is one of our strongest programs yet. We’ve trimmed down a bit in size, but it’s only so we can make sure we are presenting the best of the best to the city of Philadelphia. More premieres, more memorable performances and a competition lineup that begs for a curious audience.”
The Festival will also include 5 centerpiece screenings, including August: Osage County, Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, Nebraska, Philomena, and The Unknown Known.
“In addition to delivering yet another amazing program, for which I am incredibly proud to deliver to Philly. I’m particularly thrilled to be welcoming some brilliant luminaries to the Festival this year, including Bruce Dern, who is accepting a Lifetime Achievement Award alongside his brilliant performance in Nebraska; Academy Award winning director Jonathan Demme, who is joining us to present the 20th Anniversary screening of Philadelphia; Rising Star Award recipient Kerry Bishe, fresh off her noteworthy turn in last year’s Best Picture winner Argo and visiting the Festival with two films, Blue Highway and Grand Piano.”
The narrative features vying competition this year are Harmony Lessons, directed by Emir Baigazin; Ilo Ilo directed by Anthony Chen; In Bloom, directed by Nana Ekvtimishvili and Simon Groß; A Long and Happy Life, directed by Boris Khlebnikov; Mary, Queen of Scots, directed by Thomas Imbach; Vic + Flo Saw a Bear, directed by Denis Côté; We Are the Best!, directed by Lukas Moodysson. The documentary features competing are 12 O’Clock Boys, directed by Lotfy Nathan; Caucus, directed by AJ Schnack; God Loves Uganda, directed by Roger Ross Williams; Harry Dean Stanton: Partly Fiction, directed by Sophie Huber; The Kill Team, directed by Dan Krauss; La Maison de la Radio, directed by Nicolas Philibert; The Short Game, directed by Josh Greenbaum.
