The list of henchmen (and women) featured in the film is extensive. Topping the list is Steve Bannon, followed by a rogue’s gallery including Steven Miller, Sean Hannity, Ann Coulter, and going back as far as Newt Gingrich and Lou Dobbs. Donald Trump himself is featured during his “Obama is not a citizen” birther days, and there are updated clips of him at his campaign rallies.
The beauty of Goldberg’s film is that he draws no conclusions: the plans are laid out in cynical calculations in the words of those behind them. There’s no clever editing, either. They are fine saying it clearly out loud. MAGA influencers are selling twisted dreams of a White ethno-state to under-educated people who have Mandela-effected themselves into believing we once had that and their lives would improve if we did again. “MAGA” means “Make America White Again,” while ignoring the fact that it never was.
“…absolutely required viewing..”
In 80 snappy minutes, Goldberg’s smart, succinct film covers a vast array of topics through clips of insiders explaining, in their own words, how the conservative political machine, for decades, has researched and exploited the fears of White Americans, generally, and White Christian men, specifically.
This film could be part of a cinematic look at current politics, taken together with Vindicating Trump, The Apprentice, and Who We Are. They are cardinal points on a map of political, social, and economic ideology. White with Fear is absolutely required viewing.
"…draws a direct line between Richard Nixon’s racist campaign rhetoric to the current MAGA playbook"
