Some short films we love because they’re dripping with cuteness. Such is the case with writer-director Harley Chamandy’s short film, Where It’s Beautiful When It Rains.
Our hero (Benjamin Pajak) is an eight-year-old boy with a briefcase in hand looking for a job in New York City. His first and definitely not last job interview comes from a New York liquor store owner. Over and over again, the boy is told he’s too young. Finally, when asked what is in his briefcase, he reveals a pair of tap shoes. Soon, our hero finds a modest amount of success busking with his tap shoes in the park. However, the eight-year-old needs to earn more for what he needs.
“…an eight-year-old boy with a briefcase in hand looking for a job in New York City.”
Again, cuteness abounds throughout Where It’s Beautiful When It Rains, and there’s nothing cuter than an eight-year-old determined to work hard to make his dreams come true. The true heartbreak is that the kind nature of people want to help, but he’s only eight years old.
As our hero, Benjamin Pajak absolutely shines as our young entrepreneur. His earnestness will make you grab your wallet. Likewise, Chamandy’s story simply oozes sweetness when our protagonist meets an elderly performer who might help make his dreams come true.
Where It’s Beautiful When It Rains shows us that our dreams can come true with a lot of hard work.
"…our dreams can come true with a lot of hard work."
