A woman’s life is in an endless loop in Kelly and David Tappan’s sci-fi short, Universe 25. Six months ago, Mel (Kelly Tappan) was abducted for unknown reasons and locked in a room with a stranger and a creepy set of cameras observing them. Precisely at the end of every month, Mel and the guest are knocked out, and the guest is replaced by a new stranger to repeat the process. This story is about the sixth stranger…
For me, one of the joys of creating science fiction is to take an idea that pushes humanity to its limits and ponder the questions of how you or I would react in that situation. Universe 25 goes on that exploration.
“Mel was abducted for unknown reasons and locked in a room with a stranger…”
If you were locked in a room with a stranger for thirty days and had no communication from the outside or explanation of why you were there, what would you do? Who do you trust? What needs would you want to be fulfilled? What happens after the experiment? Is there an “after the experiment?”
The mystery of Universe 25 is told brilliantly by Kelly and David, with fantastic performances across the board. Our tale features the perfect blend of narration, flashbacks, special effects, and beautiful edits and transitions. Even the set captures the ominous sci-fi tone to it. Universe 25 is about as good as a sci-fi short gets.
