It’s been a long time since I’ve seen the Michael Keaton Batman. I’m not sure just how much of that Batman appears in The Flash, but it was great to see Keaton back, along with the guy who did all his stunts. Though Sasha Calle doesn’t exactly look like Helen Slater or Melissa Benoist, she does justice to Supergirl and accomplishes what that character needs to do for this specific story.
Unfortunately, The Flash suffers in its CGI department. It looks cheap. But I’ll take cheap over cheesy anytime. Others have told me it could have looked better, but my question is how. Ultimately, the narrative is the star, and screenwriters Christina Hodson and Joby Harold have crafted a compelling one. Plus, Muschietti knows how to tell a comic book story. As much as there is excessive fan-baiting and nostalgia, the film earns it at the end by holding most of it until the end.
“…the good DC movie I’ve been waiting for…”
Speaking of the ending, I dislike multiverse stories and time-traveling. It’s currently being overdone. But, The Flash handles the subject brilliantly. It refuses to overcomplicate the infinite storylines and wraps it up in a nice tidy bow in the end (sorta). So far, The Flash and Everything Everywhere All At Once are the only titles to do it right.
If there is a negative, it’s that there was too much comedy. That is especially true before Keaton shows up, as that is when it gets deadly serious. Well, until the end credits, that is. I just got annoyed at the fact that comedy was thrown in for comedy’s sake, and the other Barry was just too much of a goof at times. I just sat there loving the film and the action, only to be interrupted by juvenile and basic humor. Thankfully, Muschietti never allows this to go overboard.
The Flash is the good DC movie (sans The Suicide Squad) I’ve been waiting for since the first Wonder Woman. At this point in time, DC is about to overtake Marvel in the who-can-make-a-better-film race.

Thank God that someone with an open mind is finally reviewing this movie.
