SICKENING CONCEPTIONS (DVD)

By Eric Campos | August 13, 2002

Yeah, this is a complete rip-off of MTV’s “Jackass”, but it was bound to happen sooner or later, right? Actually, I’m sure it’s happened several times already. I can imagine that cable access channels across the country have been host to numerous shows featuring a bunch of guys making total idiots out of themselves and others by the most cruel means possible. Yup, we’ve gotten to the point where anyone with a camera, a lighter and a bag of dogshit can make somewhat entertaining TV.
Despite the shitty title and the fact that this is a blatant rip-off of a popular show, “Sickening Conceptions” is goddamn funny. The main feature of this DVD is made up of three 15 minute episodes of the cable access show “Sickening Conceptions”. Each episode is jam packed with the kind of “Jackass”ery you’d expect to see on MTV, such as guys fuckin’ around on top of garbage dumpsters, people jumping off a balcony to land on top of a car and the placement of dog crap on the receiver of a public phone so an unsuspecting caller will get a load of s**t in their ear. And then there’s plenty of stuff that would never make it on MTV – guys whipping out their dicks, girls flashing their boobs, a sleeping bum getting urinated on and real death footage cut to Dexy’s Midnight Runner’s “Come On Eileen”. As gross and mean spirited “Jackass” can get, the antics on that show in comparison to the ones in “Sickening Conceptions” are warm and friendly. The guys in “Sickening Conceptions” don’t play around. They’re out to offend and more than likely get their desired effect all too frequently.
Besides the three episodes, the “Sickening Conceptions” DVD is loaded with bonus materials – three short films, which are just as gross and offensive as their cable access show, live footage of the “Sickening Conceptions” guys berating callers on their show, deleted scenes and other good stuff.
