Then there’s the cast of Scream Of The Wolf. Mapes doesn’t have much to do as the harried producer, but he’s affable enough. Fleet is good as the aging has been, bringing to mind the underrated performance of Ferdinand Mayne in the delightful shocker Frightmare (the one from 1983). John Henshaw brings a funny energy to the frustrated landlord.

But the two shining stars are Zucchi and Morgan Rees-Davies. Regarding the former, perhaps it is because her character is so much better written than anyone else. Or it could be that actor is just naturally that gifted. No matter, every time Zucchi is on screen, the movie lights up, becoming a bit more engaging and heartfelt than when she’s not. Rees-Davies is the werewolf and moves very unsettlingly, cutting an imposing, threatening figure.

The werewolf has a bloody 8-pack for abs…”

As far as the makeup on the werewolf is concerned, it is good. Shaune Harrison and Paula Anne Booker don’t go for the bulky look. Instead, they opt for a scrawny but ripped appearance that admittedly takes some getting used to. The werewolf has a bloody 8-pack for abs, which is a little strange. However, it looks like a real creature and moves with the greatest ease, thus being a true menace. Of course, seeing the entire thing in a clear shot takes an hour or so. That sequence is thrilling.

Scream Of The Wolf tells a been-there, seen-that storyline. Most of the characters are cliched and not memorable (I couldn’t tell you the name of the film-within-a-film’s director to save my life). But Brunt has made something that is still entertaining and amusing. The werewolf design is different and fun, while Zucchi effortlessly steals the picture from everyone else.
