Mom can’t be taking care of the kids all day. In P. Patrick Hogan’s short film Quiet! Mom’s Working, even mom has to have her hobbies. Quiet! Mom’s Working opens with Mom (Ana Krista Johnson) seeking solace in the family basement. There, she opens a large bag with Del’s (Shane Bradley) body inside. As Mom begins to wrap the body in plastic wrap, a voice from upstairs interrupts, and Mom is out of her zone. Undeterred, Mom reaches over to grab what she refers to as the “drill-do,” and before inserting it into Del, he awakens.
“Mom reaches over to grab what she refers to as the ‘drill-do’…”
Quiet! Mom’s Working is a delightfully silly action short with an outlandish premise leading to a silly conclusion with punches and thrills along the way. Director P. Patrick Hogan makes good use of the cramped space, particularly in the fight sequences. If stunt people were involved, the transitions looked seamless. Bravo.
Tonally, Ana Krista Johnson gives us an S&M Dexter vibe, but poor Shane Bradley never had a chance. Yes, sometimes short films just need to be fun. Quiet! Mom’s Working brings the fun and makes it dark.
