At midnight, we’re tired and rarely thinking straight. Then comes a bump in the night, and we convince ourselves it’s nothing. In Chad Allen Barton’s horror short Prey To Me, a woman discovers that the thing in the dark wants something she’s not willing to give.
Already having trouble sleeping and scrolling on her phone, she finally dozes off, only to wake to the strange sensation that someone is in her home. She barricades herself in her bedroom and calls 911, but they don’t care. She then shatters the window and screams for help, but no one cares.

Shannon Walton stares into the darkness of her bedroom in Prey To Me.
“She barricades herself in her bedroom and calls 911, but they don’t care.”
An entity with long, thin claws enters the room with only one request: “Pray to me.” But she can’t.
Barton’s creature short preys on our fear of the dark and that moment between dream and reality. The story unfolds as a nightmare for our heroine, and Barton pushes his small budget and apparent love for ’80s and ’90s indie horror to the limit. Great, simple creature design, choreography, and a haunting ending make it the perfect demonic icing on the cake. Horror is best in the hands of indie filmmakers.
