Jeffrey Scott Brack’s Over Again is built around one of the most honest feelings in any love story — the electricity of almost. Cary (Michael Ursu) takes the stage at a packed open mic night with a new song he’s been holding onto. It’s something personal, and as he says, “for someone who hasn’t heard it yet.” The song is called “Over Again,” and as he plays, a woman named Eve (Lexi Stein) in the audience feels every word land exactly where it was meant to. After the set, the two find each other, and the attraction between them is immediate and undeniable.
The two share a drink, take a long walk around town, and revel in their connection. When Cary walks Eve to her front door and receives a non-verbal invitation to come inside…Cary quickly bolts, revealing a deeply held secret.

Love stories would be boring if our starstruck lovers just met and fell head over heels for one another. The feeling of being in love is trumped by the feeling of almost being in love, and Over Again captures that emotion perfectly. Michael Ursu and Lexi Stein’s performances are spot on. You want them together, and it breaks your heart when it doesn’t happen that night…and then there’s the ending that hits you like a brick. Even the song evokes these feelings. Its narrative verses are a bit on the nose, but when you get to the chorus, you’re in. Over Again works because the love is authentic.
