Never Too Old is a short film written by and starring Rolando Zee and directed by Morgan Martini. Florio (Gregory Niebel) and Jesse (Rolando Zee) have lived together as lovers for over 45 years. Florio has expressed a desire to get married when same sex marriage was legalized, but Jesse has held firm to his decision never to get married. His mind changes when the law does, and he proposes. A small, glittering wedding follows. In their married life they will, of course, face the changes that come with old age, but they will do so as a committed couple. Entering marriage in their 80’s is a testament to hope, a statement, and perhaps a brave act of lunacy, but done with courage and love.

“Entering marriage in their 80’s is a testament to hope…”

This film is a slice-of-life look at an older couple deciding to formalize their relationship in the 11th hour of life, as allowed by the changing perspective of society and the legal opportunity afforded them. As such, there isn’t much in the way of plot or conflict. The viewer is invited to live in Florio and Jesse’s shoes for a time, as they enjoy the acknowledgement and legitimacy of their partnership. Zee condensed this short script down from a feature-length screenplay called Simmering. Martini has painted a soft-focus, R&B sung, feel-good sketch of this bittersweet moment in life.
