HOLLYSHORTS 2020 FILM FESTIVAL REVIEW! “Things are not always as it seems” is a common theme in comedy short films, and that’s certainly true with Corey Shurge’s Lughead. Two strangers meet in a motel room for what appears to be a transactional romantic romp. Well…it’s not what you think.

The pair in question is Owen and Jill (Aaron Merke and Jade Michael). Owen is unhappy in his marriage. Even though he and his wife just had a kid, she despises Owen. On the other hand, Jill is pretty nosy. She says she wants a little background information on why Owen wants her services…to please him better. Merke and Michael give fantastic performances as their secrets have to be held close to the vest throughout the film and be believable once revealed.

“…wants a little background information on why Owen wants her services…”

The ten-minute short film has several twists and turns regarding revelations about our two characters. Writer/director Shurge does a brilliant job pacing precisely each revelation to dramatic and comedic effect. I’ll pat myself on the back and say I called one of the big ones. It’s a fun story overall. Enjoy the ride.
