Little Cuts

Two longtime friends hope to reconnect at a getaway weekend to refresh their friendship in Maia Henkin’s short film, Little Cuts.

Pam (Elise Gerggreen) and Jo (Maia Henkin) are two longtime friends who have drifted apart over the years. As they arrive at their desert vacation spot, Pam begins making gestures to rekindle their friendship, such as initiating some chit-chat about their past and giving Jo half of a “best friends” necklace. Jo is amused, but it becomes apparent that Jo does not want to be here as she is always on her phone. As Jo’s passive-aggressive to subtly abusive behavior intensifies, Pam learns of Jo’s feelings (or lack of) for Pam.

“Pam begins making gestures to rekindle their friendship, such as…giving Jo half of a ‘best friends’ necklace.”

Little Cuts is a simple and insightful tale of a toxic friendship. The story is solid and performed beautifully by writer/director Henkin and Elise Berggreen. Henkin’s screenplay brilliantly examines the subtle abuse and bullying that can happen between “friends” when friendship turns to disdain for one of them. You’d be hard-pressed not to see yourself in either role, if not both.

Little Cuts screened at the 2022 HollyShorts Film Festival
