The film makes clear that for most, with the possible exception of a handful of superstars, there’s not much money in selling recorded music these days. And without a major record label to infuse cash into money-losing concert tours, it’s nearly impossible to hit the road without going broke.
After suffering a number of financial blows, Nash raised the white flag and retreated to her parents’ home in England. She doesn’t know how to earn a living doing anything other than touring and recording music, she admitted. She wonders if she’ll need to find a job in a cafe — how awkward would it be if any of her fans recognized her? Perish the thought.
Of course, those fears were misplaced. She is now acting in a successful TV series, her musical career will continue and her financial security is assured for the time being.
As for the film itself, it’s well-edited, briskly paced, if not a bit manipulative, and will likely please Kate Nash’s fan base and attract a few more followers. That’s really what it’s all about, isn’t it?
