IN THE RED

By Eric Campos | August 26, 2002

This is one of those films that becomes a festival favorite for the balls it displays while at the same time being damned by a good group of festivalgoers because of those same balls. Some people just can’t take a joke.
Shot like an old instructional film, on 16mm even, “In the Red” teaches women how to make their own sanitary napkins that wind up looking like kinky little loin cloths. The film starts out with a woman walking down the beach in a white dress with a big, red blood splotch on her a*s, following that up with a scene of a guy nervously buying tampons for his wife or girlfriend. Yeah, I guess tampons can be a pain in the a*s. We then move to the instructional portion of the film where we’re not only taught how to make homemade sanitary products but that menstrual blood is good for the garden too. Crowd reaction for this film should be pretty interesting.
SCREENING AS PART OF THE WOMEN OF MICROCINEMA IN SAN FRANCISCO, AUGUST 27TH AND HOUSTON, AUGUST 30TH!
