Honeywell is a short film set in a version of the hereafter where life decisions are reviewed. Sophia Honeywell (Becca Q) wakes up dead in the desert beside a vintage pickup truck and a man named Caleb (Will Graziano). Caleb explains that they are paired up in this plane of existence and that the life she departed left a spot open for him to return to Earth. After having spent significant time in the afterlife, he has chosen to come back as a Lionfish.

She is confused and disoriented when The Sheriff (Anna Lamadrid) appears and explains that Caleb is getting ahead of himself, and has cut in line to claim a spot. She decides that instead of a straight swap, the two must compete for the slot on Earth and she sets out the rules of the competition. The winner of the match will be allowed to return. Sophia contemplates her life as she faces the challenges presented. She had focused her energies on her ex-girlfriend, Jordan (Chelsea Rose Cook), who broke up with her, and had become stuck in that moment, unable to move forward. The Sheriff makes her an offer that would change the course of her mortal existence forever.

As the drama plays out between self-absorbed loner Caleb, and the conflicted, emotionally stunted Sophia, each of them must face sacrifice and hard truths about themselves. They must find a way to push past their selfishness, loss, and regret to have any chance to get back to this mortal coil.

“… a competition in the afterlife will determine who can return to Earth …”

Directed by Jill V. Dae from a script by Will Graziano and Charlotte Martin, this is a gem of a movie. The performances are flawless. Cinematography of the raw, unforgiving landscape is beautiful, capturing the terrain and sky in glowing colors, giving life to the barren location. The film is a parable in 17 minutes about the ephemeral nature of life, and the importance of knowing what gives yours meaning.
