Are you afraid to leave your comfort zone? What if your comfort zone forces you to humiliate yourself? What if that same place was also entirely a lie? Would you choose the validation through degradation? Or could you face the truth?

One innocuous day, she receives a letter that slowly begins to mess with her life.”

Such questions lie at the heart of the short film Hashtag. X (Gigi Edgley) is a famous social media star. Her followers tune in and watch X in her house, living her life. The bulk of which seems to be sending thank-you and I-love-you messages to her fans. Her days in the spacious yet small rooms she calls home are controlled by Te’a (Juliet Landau). This artificial intelligence keeps X appraised of how many followers she has gained or lost, what is trending, products to advertise, and the like.

One innocuous day, she receives a letter that slowly begins to mess with her life. Weird messages begin appearing over her screens, the barrier holding X in the few rooms she calls home becomes weaker, and X increasingly questions every move she makes. This panic makes her followers leave en masse, which causes X to act out in ways to keep them.

I really want to see this turned into a mini series or feature film. Edgley is brilliant! Her performance is vulnerable and confident at the same time. I was instantly bewitched. I didn’t want it to end.

    • Bobby LePire says:

Rachel, I 100% agree. Seeing this expanded out more and dive into other social critiques would be amazing! Edgley is such an underrated actress.

  2. Patrick says:
