Don’t F with Mary Jane

Spiced with horror and revenge, Don’t F with Mary Jane is a bit of a relationship comedy and an anthem for all the women who catch the men who cheat on them. Mary Jane (Swisyzinna) wants to find the one, but Prince Charming is nowhere to be found. When she intercepts her current boyfriend’s booty call from another woman, Mary Jane goes on a tailspin and launches a killing spree.

The emotionally unstable, marijuana-smoking stripper Mary Jane is aging faster than her co-workers, so her desperation to find a man is mounting. Targeting men from her past to see if they can pass her “test” of change, she realizes, one by one, that nothing has changed. They, too, are aging, have more emotional issues, and seem to be cheating more than ever, or at least as much as they always have.

A dual personality is at work, driving Mary Jane toward psychosis. Even her cocaine-snorting, meth-using co-worker can see there’s an issue and pays a visit. Like anyone who enters Mary Jane’s house, she complains of a wretched smell, the stench of decaying male bodies.

“Mary Jane wants to find the one, but Prince Charming is nowhere to be found.”

“I’m not crazy, I’m just tired of being hurt,” says Mary Jane as she rounds up men and kills them one by one. From giving lap dances to men who fall asleep mid-dance to calling past lovers who cheat on their partners, Mary Jane has no filter when it comes to slaying—she’s on a mission to denounce them all.

A low-budget horror comedy, Don’t F with Mary Jane is not rich in storyline, acting, or production values, but it does highlight some interesting aspects of relationships and the psychological toll of emotions and partnership. Mary Jane is a dark character and, even with counseling, cannot accept being alone or cheating on men. She, like many women and men, would like a chance at love.

Don’t F with Mary Jane features some very good-looking male bodies, a peek into a working stripper’s life with a bizarre nod to normalcy, and a deconstructive breakdown of the act of killing off what doesn’t serve you. Throughout the film, Mary Jane’s character morphs into someone unreal, demonic, and delusional, yet it’s hard to look away to see what she will do next.

Adding to Mary Jane’s new lease on life, the comic relief of disposing of bodies, smacking talk to her co-worker, or faking orgasms offers an appeal to the gruesome task of killing, which takes control of her mind like an addiction.
