The fight choreography was very convincing. Upon my first viewing, I was shocked by the realistic nature of a particular punch to the face. My knee jerk reaction was amazement over the fact that they had apparently placed a real assault in the film. Very impressive for a movie of this caliber and unfortunately not something often seen on screen.
Despite the movie’s non-serious tone, it still has its hiccups. The comedy is a tad juvenile, but that is to be expected given the type of movie it is. That being said, some of the jokes do tend to fall flat. Though the irreverent and over the top antics of many of the cast still make it worth watching.
“This movie never passes up an opportunity to pay homage to film pop culture.”
The movie also exists as a reverential love letter to movie tropes in general. From splitting up to cursed spell books, this movie never passes up an opportunity to pay homage to film pop culture as a whole. They even use the iconic Wilhelm scream on two occasions, which is an iconic stock sound effect popularized by its inclusion in Star Wars: A New Hope, which will make even a cursory movie view smirk with recognition.
It is certainly more the” beer-in-a-can” than the top-shelf quality many would want to imbibe from their movies. But like beer in a can, it would be a welcome addition to any Halloween party and gets better the more you revisit it.
"…The gore showcased is delightfully gruesome."
Superb review of the movie. Makes me want to watch it.
I love the way you describe a movie! #fan
