David M Morizot’s Dark Legacy is a coming-of-age, Star Wars-inspired story about a young woman who has no idea how much history is riding on her survival.
Chel-Soo (Chelsey Goldsmith) crash-lands on a remote planet in the middle of the night with a Dark Hunter, Ala’aal (Alan Silva), closing in behind her. His mission is clear… kill Chel-Soo. She’s already running on fumes when Ala’aal is about to make quick work of her with a final parting thought, “Weakness leads to failure, and the wages of failure are death.” Just as it looks like the fight is over, a hooded stranger appears out of nowhere and prevents the Dark Hunter from finishing Chel-Soo off.
Chel-Soo wakes up in a stranger’s home. He introduces himself as a “simple hermit” who goes by DaVaar (David M Morizot). As a still-disoriented Chel-Soo comes to, DaVaar realizes she’s the daughter of someone he once knew dearly — he recognizes her mother’s weapon in her hands. DaVaar soon imparts wisdom on how to defeat her undefeatable foe.

To say that Dark Legacy is an unnamed homage to Star Wars would just be stating the obvious, considering the weapons of choice are sabers that emit light as their blades. We all love Star Wars, and filmmaker David M Morizot weaves together a story that is more thoughtful than the Sequel Trilogy. It’s half action and half philosophy.
DaVaar tries to instill confidence in Chel-Soo, teaching her that fear, anger, and doubt are not things to fight against, but forces to control. Regarding Dark and Light, Dark is forbidden because it serves as a shortcut to power.
The action in Dark Legacy is amazing. Yes, there are imperfections, where obvious effects are added in post, but damn, the saber effects are outstanding, and I certainly felt the impact of every force push. It has all the production values of a fan film, leaving Dark Legacy in the upper strata of Star Wars fan films.
