In Dangerous Silence, Ariel Lavi and Adeyinka Adetoyi challenge the status quo that turns a blind eye to a rampant wrong and says it’s not right.
In a secluded location just outside of their village, Chiumbo and Gathee are having sex with the underaged Lila…for a fee. Because Chiumbo is paying for the tryst and offers Lila as a gift to Gathee. Knowing this is wrong, Gathee refuses, but the physically imposing Chiumbo demands that Gathee go through with it… besides, she needs the money for her family.
Later, Gathee decides to find Lila and apologize for what she did, but Lila refuses to accept his apology, saying that he shouldn’t even be friends with Chiumbo.

Dangerous Silence is a modern-day parable about integrity and standing up against what is clearly wrong. Gathee is the central character who is coerced into morally compromising himself and forced to face the consequences of this action. Though Gathee’s sin is blatant, let’s face it, the sins we commit are less obvious and less out in the open.
As a film, Dangerous Silence is about as DIY as it gets. It starts with a story that filmmakers Ariel Lavi and Adeyinka Adetoyi had to tell, and there are very few frills regarding its production. Essentially, three actors acting.
Ultimately, as filmmakers with very few resources, Lavi and Adetoyi made their movie and told their story. Now, it’s time to do it again.
