Cheesy sound effects, off-looking graphics, ineffective one-liners, and occasional subpar acting frame Chick Fight and, in many ways, defines what the film represents. While these aspects of the action-comedy could have potentially rendered the movie ineffective, the reality is that life is far from perfect, and these aspects mirror the real world. We all have flaws, say silly things, and sometimes show up to some of the most important moments of our lives ill-prepared with the expectation that failure is inevitable. Sometimes failing is exactly what we need in order to find success in the long run, and Chick Fight expresses that notion to a tee.
“…delivers neverending excitement, intensity, and entertainment.”
There are some incredibly funny, talented, and well-established individuals who help make this film possible. Ackerman, Thorne, and Alec Baldwin, as trainer Jack Murphy, have been a part of Hollywood for some time now, and they have found well-deserved success. However, newcomer Sloan outshines everyone. From the moment she appears on screen, the audience can feel her energy and passion. As Sloan works alongside these gargantuan names, she manages not to feed off what they bring to the table but makes it the other way around. Every time Sloan opens her mouth, it feels like the others rely on her to guide the scene. I implore you, even if Chick Fight is of no interest to you, to give the movie a chance if only to see Sloan’s impeccable ability to shine. Her performance places her in a position to find legitimate success as an actor in future productions.
The relatability of Chick Fight‘s flaws makes the film endearing even in its bloodiest moments. Leyden and writer Joseph Downey find the perfect balance for each character and allows them to come to life in a series of awkward and colorful scenes that resonate with viewers. Chick Fight is an effective and modern twist on the classic fight club story. It, in many ways, reaches audiences in ways that other films with a primarily female cast are unable and delivers never-ending excitement, intensity, and entertainment.
