Something I noticed throughout my criticism career thus far is that there are A LOT of low budget horror films. I would go so far as to guess that for every blockbuster film released throughout the year, a hundred low budget horror films were made, and that’s a very conservative estimate. So how do you make your particular indie slasher flick stand out from the pack? There are a lot of different factors but something that Celebrity Crush does is successfully execute a unique concept. While, yes it is a slasher, the plot is a little bit more original than most. There are no camps or sorority sisters, instead, we have a horror convention as a setting.

The convention, along with the rest of the film, takes place in St. Petersburg, Florida. Jonathan Blakely (Oliver Robins, who also writes and directs) and Peter Norvis (Eddie Craig) are attending the convention on behalf of a classic ’80s horror film called Chainface the Clown. Peter is no stranger to the convention circuit and knows that it’s easy as a genre star to meet women who are fans. He gets this idea into Jonathan’s head, although Jonathan does have a fiance at home. Jonathan ends up meeting Emily Lynessa (Alissa Schneider) in his hotel after Peter takes over his room with two fans. She claims to have never seen Chainface but offers to meet Jonathan later at a bar.
