Sam Wilson finally got that boat loan and can now take on more Avengers-scale problems in Captain America: Brave New World. Has Sam finally earned the title of Captain America?

Long after the final events of Marvel’s Eternals, mining has begun on Celestial Island in the Indian Sea. Its primary discovery is a substance known as Adamantium. Now, the world’s superpower nations are racing to claim their stake. Running on a platform of equity, General Thaddeus Ross (Harrison Ford) was elected president on the promise that every country would get its fair share.

Lest we get bogged down by silly global politics, this movie is about Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) finding his identity as Captain America. The film opens with Sam and his new Falcon, Joaquin Torres (Danny Ramirez), infiltrating a Catholic mission in Mexico, where a mysterious buyer is trying to get his hands on a canister of Adamantium. Of course, Sam is more concerned with saving the hostages than securing the adamantium.

“During a White House dinner with the world leaders, Ross announces a new treaty regarding Celestial Island.”

Everything works out, and President Ross decides to let bygones be bygones, asking Sam to reassemble the Avengers. Meanwhile, during a White House dinner with the world leaders, Ross announces a new treaty regarding Celestial Island. Music plays during the dinner, causing soldiers to turn into killing machines, including Isaiah Washington (Carl Lumbly), with the intent of assassinating the world leaders in attendance.

Of course, Washington was not in his right mind and now faces the death penalty. It’s up to Captain America to figure out what is going on and who is behind a master plan of global annihilation.

Captain America: Brave New World has its problems, and I want to examine them from a story perspective. The story isn’t particularly deep, but there’s a mystery, and Sam moves from one scene to the next, uncovering it. Since this is a superhero movie, we have the requisite action sequences to make it a thrilling roller coaster ride.
