Thrillers, Horror, and Social Justice Kicking Off SXSW Premieres

SXSW 2018 is presenting a slate of film premieres beginning March 8th. Enjoy these trailers as a preview taste of what’s coming, with more to follow as the festival kicks off in Austin.

ALT RIGHT: AGE OF RAGE 

World Premiere. Written and directed by Adam Bhala Lough.
Trump has won and the Alt-Right is on the rise. His improbable victory brought a previously hidden movement out of the fringe. On the other side, the shadow collective Antifa and civil rights organizations are fighting back.

 

ELIZABETH HARVEST

World Premiere. Written and directed by Sebastian Gutierrez. Starring Abbey Lee, Ciaran Hinds, Carla Gugino, Matthew Beard, Dylan Baker.
Newlywed Elizabeth (Abbey Lee) arrives with her brilliant scientist husband Henry (Ciaran Hinds) to his magnificent estate, where he wows her with lavish dinners and a dazzling tour of the property. Henry explains that everything in his world now belongs to her except for a locked-off room he forbids her from entering.

 

THE DAWN WALL

World Premiere. Directed by Josh Lowell, Peter Mortimer.
On January, 2015, American rock climbers Tommy Caldwell and Kevin Jorgeson captivated the world with their effort to free climb The Dawn Wall, a seemingly impossible 3,000 foot rock face in Yosemite National Park, California. On the final attempt, with the world watching, Caldwell is faced with a moment of truth. Should he abandon his partner to fulfill his ultimate dream, or risk his own success for the sake of their friendship?

 

THE NEW ROMANTIC

World Premiere. Written and directed by Carly Stone. Starring Jessica Barden, Hayley Law, Brett Dier, Timm Sharp, Avan Jogia, Camila Mendes.
Blake Conway, aspiring journalist, hopeless romantic and college senior, is terrified of graduating. In order to escape her looming post-graduation fate that includes student debt and zero romantic prospects, she becomes a sugar baby. As she documents the adventure in the hopes of winning a journalism award with a generous cash prize, she sets out on a quest to figure out if society is right to judge these woman and if her own self worth comes with a price.

 

THY KINGDOM COME

World Premiere. Directed by Eugene Richards. Starring Javier Bardem, Callie Eldred, Tasia Moore, Joshua Collins, Adam Watters, Samantha Jo Chism Watters, Melvin Kemp, Melvin Cook, Kathryn Von Glahn, Eric Eudy.
A cancer patient grown mad at God; a Ku Klux Klansman seeking redemption; an elderly woman who was never not in love; an inmate who’s been waiting weeks in his cell for a letter; the mother blamed for her baby’s death.
