Three Words: Finnish Hillbilly Horror

By Chris Gore | June 9, 2017

Hillbilly horror Kyrsyä – Tuftland released its first poster

From the filmmakers behind films like Bunny the Killer Thing, Backwood
Madness and Crumbs something totally different.

Kyrsyä – Tuftland is a mixture of thriller, mystery and hillbilly
horror accompanied with Twin Peaks style black humour. It’s a
Scandinavian take on films such as the Wicker Man and Rosemary’s Baby,
presented in the beautiful and endless landscapes of Finland.

Balancing between a failed relationship, uninspiring studies and
financial problems, the headstrong textile student Irina (Veera W.
Vilo) finds herself stuck in the modern rat race. To overcome her
problems she decides to accept an unexpected summer job offer at the
secluded and self-sufficient village of Kyrsyä. As Irina begins to get
a grip of herself in the middle of the endless Finnish forest, the
harmless and offbeat hillbillies begin to reveal their true nature.

Tuftland is director – producer Roope Olenius’ first feature film.
Veera W. Vilo, Saara Elina and Miikka J. Anttila star in the film
among other upcoming Finnish actors. The film is set to premiere in
2017.
