The 2002 Screenwriting Expo, the largest conference and trade show catering to screenwriters will be held at the Los Angeles Convention Center, November 16th and 17th. Admission to the event is $49.95 where attendees will have access to the information and insights they need to stay on Hollywood’s leading edge.
Seven guests of honor have been confirmed to attend – Frank Darabont (The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile), Harlan Ellison, David Goyer (“Blade”, Dark City), Richard Matheson (“Twilight Zone”, “Duel”), Scott Rosenberg (Spider-Man, Con-Air), Bruce Joel Rubin (“Ghost”, “Jacob’s Ladder”) and David O. Russell (Three Kings). Some of these guests will give their own presentations while other will be available for Q&A sessions.
The Screenwriting Expo is also running The Creative Screenwriting Open, the first ever tournament for screenwriters. Up to 1,000 writers will compete in this two-day screenwriting tournament for a $2,000 cash prize and major agency consideration. In the Open, writers pen two to three-page scenes right at the Expo, and advance in three rounds of elimination. Scenes from three finalists will be performed by professional actors at the Expo closing ceremony. The audience of writers will determine the winner.
At the Expo, attendees will have their choice of 135 different seminars, workshops, and panel discussions to attend. Topics feature character development, specific genre studies in a modern context, how to master your pitch, how to market you screenplay on the internet, workshopping your first five pages, finding an agent and plenty more.
Two three-hour pitch sessions will be held on Sunday, November 17th for those who would like to pitch their screenplays to development executives from up to 30 top production companies. Pitches are $25 each or five for $100.
A pre-Expo competition is also available. All finalists will win a free trip to the Expo. The Grand Prize winner will receive $5,000 and will be honored at the Expo’s closing night ceremony.
Not bad for $50, huh?
