Kering is marking the 10th anniversary of its Women In Motion initiative by hosting two Women In Motion talks on Saturday, January 3, as part of the Palm Springs International Film Festival’s Talking Pictures program, with screenings followed by Q&As for Hamnet and The Testament of Ann Lee.

According to the announcement, Women In Motion—launched by Kering in 2015 at Cannes—“shines a light on women in cinema and across the arts, both in front of and behind the camera,” while “supporting emerging talent and fostering meaningful dialogue around representation in culture.” This year’s Palm Springs partnership includes the following Talking Pictures events:

10:00 a.m. — Hamnet (screening followed by Q&A with director Chloé Zhao)
The film is described as “a sensitively observed, magnificently crafted tale” based on Maggie O’Farrell’s novel, following William Shakespeare (Paul Mescal) and Agnes (Jesse Buckley) as their relationship and family are tested by tragedy—and how that experience influences the creation of Hamlet.

A period room erupts into ecstatic worship as a young woman raises her arms while Shaker followers dance around her.

A worshipful frenzy breaks out in a crowded room in The Testament of Ann Lee.

11:30 a.m. — The Testament of Ann Lee (screening followed by Q&A with Amanda Seyfried and Mona Fastvold)
Fastvold’s film is billed as “the extraordinary true legend of Ann Lee,” with Seyfried starring as the Shakers’ leader who “preached gender and social equality.” The release also highlights “more than a dozen traditional Shaker hymns reimagined,” with choreography by Celia Rowlson-Hall and songs/score by Daniel Blumberg.

Later that day, Kering will also serve as the presenting sponsor of the Palm Springs International Film Awards, which will honor a lineup that includes Rose Byrne, Timothée Chalamet, Leonardo DiCaprio, Ethan Hawke, Kate Hudson, Michael B. Jordan, Adam Sandler, and Amanda Seyfried. The event will also recognize select films and talent, including Frankenstein (Visionary Award honoring Guillermo del Toro with Oscar Isaac, Jacob Elordi, and Mia Goth), Hamnet (Vanguard Award honoring Chloé Zhao with Jessie Buckley and Paul Mescal), and Sentimental Value (International Star Award honoring Renate Reinsve, Stellan Skarsgård, Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas, and Elle Fanning).
