Oscar 2019 Odds on Favorites

By Chris Gore | February 23, 2019

With wagering on the Oscars now legal in New Jersey, Green Book’s odds are 3/1, shortening heavily from its opening of 8/1, while Malek has become the overwhelming favorite at 1/7 after starting at 5/1.

Despite the late action, Green Book remains behind Roma for the coveted Best Picture Oscar. Roma is the clear favorite at 1/5, according to the betting data from US-Bookies.com.The Favourite (20/1) is third with BlacKkKlansman (25/1) fourth, and Black Panther and Bohemian Rhapsody each at 33/1.

Even if Bohemian Rhapsody doesn’t take home the Oscar for Best Picture, it appears it will earn at least one trophy, as Malek’s portrayal of Freddie Mercury is clearly the best, according to bettors. Also of note in the Best Actor category is the drop of Bradley Cooper, who was at 5/1 odds last month and is currently 20/1.

“As New Jersey residents can wager on the Academy Awards, it’s worth noting that there is considerable action on Green Book and Rami Malek. Green Book may be a wise bet, considering its payoff versus what one would receive by wagering on Roma. Rami Malek’s odds are so overwhelming that the payoff makes it a less attractive bet,” said industry analyst Alex Donohue of Bet-NJ.com, a US-Bookies network website. “It will be very interesting what the final handle will be from New Jersey as legal betting expands beyond sports and into entertainment in the Garden State– if take up is anything close to that generated in other legal markets worldwide, it looks a certainty to grow into an incredibly important area for books and hopefully something that paves the way for more non-sport betting activity.”

Odds for other key categories include:
