Newport Beach, CA (June 6, 2024) – Filmmakers, it’s time to rev your creative engines! The Newport Beach Film Festival (NBFF) is launching its first-ever Automotive Short Film Competition, and they want your unique vision behind the wheel. This is your chance to showcase your skills and passion in a genre that’s all about the thrill of the ride.
Partnering with automotive media legend Ant Anstead, NBFF is set to steer this initiative to new heights. Anstead, known for his work on over 25 TV shows, is a storyteller at heart with a deep love for cars. His expertise and enthusiasm make him the ideal collaborator for this innovative competition.
“We are thrilled to partner with Ant Anstead,” said Gregg Schwenk, CEO and Executive Director of NBFF. “His deep knowledge and enthusiasm for the automotive world bring an exciting dynamic to our festival.”
“…filmmakers are invited to create and submit short films inspired by the theme ‘For The Love Of Driving.'”
Ant Anstead himself is eager to see what indie filmmakers can do. “Cars remain a mainstay in great films, and it’s no coincidence that a consistent number of car movies are made,” said Anstead. “Films with iconic car scenes are ones you just never forget.”
Here’s the challenge: filmmakers are invited to create and submit short films inspired by the theme “For The Love Of Driving.” This is your opportunity to demonstrate your storytelling prowess—whether your film is a documentary, a scripted narrative, shot on film, or even on a smartphone. The only rules? Keep it between one and six minutes long, and ensure all content, including music, is royalty-free. Previously shared content is welcome, too.
Submitted films may be featured in a TV show and online, giving you a fantastic platform to showcase your work. The top ten finalists will have their films showcased at the Festival on October 18, 2024. This event will include a Q&A with each creator and a panel discussion featuring notable judges like Sung Kang (Fast & Furious franchise), actress Emelia Hartford (Gran Turismo), and filmmaker Dan Mace (Chief Creative Officer for Beast Philanthropy).
Got a passion project that fits the bill? Submissions are open until July 14, 2024, with a reduced entry fee of $25.00 for this category. For all the details and to submit your film, visit the NBFF website.
