Prime Video just released the trailer for Pimpinero: Blood and Oil, and it’s already drenching us in gasoline-soaked tension. This Colombian original film will make its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 9 before hitting Prime Video later this year. Directed by Andrés Baiz (Narcos, Griselda), this flick delves into the underground world of gasoline smuggling in the desert wastelands between Colombia and Venezuela.

Pimpinero: Blood and Oil follows Juan (Alejandro Speitzer), the youngest in a clan of smugglers known as “pimpineros.” Forced to work for a dangerous rival, Juan finds himself sinking deeper into a brutal business where human lives are as disposable as the fuel they’re smuggling. His girlfriend Diana (Laura Osma) won’t stand by and watch, so she takes it upon herself to uncover the sinister secrets behind this cutthroat trade.

“…Juan finds himself sinking deeper into a brutal business where human lives are as disposable as the fuel they’re smuggling.”

With a cast that also includes Alberto Guerra (Griselda) and none other than Grammy-winning musician Juanes making his acting debut, Pimpinero: Blood and Oil promises to be packed with gritty action and family drama, as it unpacks the harsh realities of life in this no-man’s-land. Co-written by María Camila Arias (Birds of Passage), this one isn’t just another thriller—it’s a look at the dark borders of geography, morality, and family.

Expect Pimpinero: Blood and Oil to light up screens in over 240 countries later this year, continuing Prime Video’s push for global domination with their slate of international Originals. Meanwhile, big studios can sit and spin as indie filmmakers keep pushing the envelope and showing the world where real stories come from.
