“COMIC BOOK: THE MOVIE” SHOOTS IN SAN DIEGO

By Film Threat Staff | August 1, 2002

Sid Caesar? Jonathan Winters? Gary Owens? What is this, a Friar’s Club Roast? Nope, it’s Mark Hamill’s new film, “Comic Book: The Movie”, to be shot this weekend at the San Diego Comic Con. Hamill will don the mask of a fictional documentary filmmaker and plunge into Comic-Con with his crew of crazy characters, played by award winning voice over artists Billy West (“Futurama”, “Ren & Stimpy”), Jess Harnell (“Animaniacs”, Lilo & Stitch and “Scooby-Doo”) and Roger Rose (Rugrats in Paris: The Movie). Also starring in the project will be Sid Caesar (NBC’s “Your Show of Shows”), comic book creator Stan Lee (Spider-man, The Incredible Hulk), Donna D’Errico (“Baywatch”), Chase Masterson (“Deep Space 9”, “Inhuman”), Gary Owens (“Laugh In”), Tom Kenny (Voice of Spongebob SquarePants), the granddaddy of improve – Jonathan Winters (“Mork & Mindy”) and many more to be announced.
“Mark Hamill is the perfect guy to direct this film because he is not only a part of this world (Voice of the Joker), but he has an intimate understanding and love for this world, says executive producer Scott Zakarin. “The core of this talented cast represents the top voice over talent in the industry, all we are doing is cutting them loose.”
“Comic Book: The Movie” follows the antics of Donald Swan (Mark Hamill), who has just been hired to direct a documentary about his favorite comic book heroes of all time, Commander Courage & Liberty Ladd. Armed with the studio’s marketing guru (Roger Rose), a perpetually wasted cameraman (Jess Harnell) and the grandson of Commander Courage’s deceased creator (Billy West), Donald heads to the world’s largest comic book convention, Comic-con in San Diego, where they will encounter a reality that no one could have prepared for.
So if you’re at the con, you too may be able to appear in “Comic Book: The Movie”.
