It’s 2019. You know, the future. And we’re living in it. So it makes sense total sense that an 80s Sci-Fi-themed pop-up bar called Nexus 2019 would debut in in Los Angeles. The bar is an immersive experience that will open for just 30 days starting November 1st, 2019.
Nexus 2019 creator Jared Butler had been toying with the idea of some kind of immersive experience to commemorate the place and time, fully realizing the concept over cocktails on a rainy day this past winter. No stranger to fully themed events, Butler is co-founder and event director of Wasteland Weekend, the Mad Max-themed festival now in its tenth year.
“This will be a completely immersive experience, featuring a fully-designed retro-future interior, themed craft cocktails, food, nightly entertainment, costumed actors, and countless details…”
Nexus 2019 is a future-noir-themed pop-up bar slated to hit downtown LA this winter, running from November 1st to the 30th. There will be two-hour reservation blocks available for attendees nightly. This will be a completely immersive experience, featuring a fully-designed retro-future interior, themed craft cocktails, food, nightly entertainment, costumed actors, and countless details for guests to explore and interact with.
This is a passion project from a group of entertainment and hospitality industry veterans, all of whom were heavily influenced by a certain seminal science fiction film from 1982, and are intent on delivering the ultimate visceral fan encounter.
“Los Angeles, November 2019 only comes once in a lifetime,” Butler said. “We’ve been lucky to have so many talented people involved with Nexus 2019, and have put together a design team with decades of experience on major Hollywood productions. It’s really exciting to brainstorm with others who are so steeped in the genre and are now going to have a real-life, 360 degree environment to play in.”
“…reinventions of iconic 80s era drinks in keeping with the retro-future feel.”
In order to create a menu of signature cocktails for Nexus 2019, Butler collaborated with LA cocktail bar veteran BC Hoffman. Co-owner of Well Work Beverage Consulting and a Creative Consultant for The Museum Of The American Cocktail, Hoffman is Co-Chair for the United States Bartenders Guild SoCal, and chances are you’ve sampled some of his libations at notable Los Angeles evening hotspots.
“As a fan of the LA Cocktail scene, I’ve admired BC Hoffman’s work for years. He was my first and only choice to create this menu with me,” Butler said. “He’s already put together some amazing things for this, from an edible rum noodle cocktail to innovate reinventions of iconic 80s era drinks in keeping with the retro-future feel.”
Tickets are on sale now via the official Nexus 2019 website or via Eventbrite. Admission includes two hours inside the experience as well as an exclusive package of souvenir items. It’s been suggested to buy tickets early as this is a very limited experience, and WILL sell out. And remember, the bar that burns twice as bright burns half as long.

Total RIP-off and scam. Awful nothingness. Do not go. Claiming my money back.
If only someone in the UK had the insight to do something like this. Great idea. Hope it does well. Does it serve replicants as well as humans? I’m not asking for myself of course…
