Will Zack Snyder’s Justice League Get a Sequel?

By Film Threat Staff | April 21, 2021

Zack Snyder’s Justice League was a masterpiece with exceptional CGI and 4-hours packed with superhero action. And now everyone wants to know when we will get Justice League 2?

Who can blame them! Snyder’s cut left DC fans expectant because the movie ended on amazing cliffhangers, new DC heroes, and some tragic deaths. Needless to say, DC fans want Warner Bros to immediately start filming on SnyderVerse – but it might be something that we will never see.

There is always hope as long as Superman is alive; that’s what the S on stands for, after all. However, it might be something DC superheroes cannot help with. After the release of the movie, Zack Snyder spoke to the media about it.

For those who haven’t watched Justice League Snyder Cut, you can watch it exclusively on HBO Max. For DC fans in Australia, you can unblock HBO Max in Australia with a VPN to watch Zack Snyder’s Justice League without any restrictions. Do keep in mind that you will have to pick the right streaming platform for yourself as it is not available on Netflix, Amazon Prime, or other streaming platforms. It is only exclusively available on HBO Max.

Justice League 2? Is the DC Sequel Happening or Not?

As much as we want a sequel, according to WarnerMedia Studio CEO, Ann Sarnoff, there might never be a sequel to Snyder’s Cut. In an interview to the Variety, Anna said:

“I appreciate that they love Zack’s work and we are very thankful for his many contributions to DC…but we’re very excited about the plans we have for all the multi-dimensional DC characters that are being developed right now.”

So, in short, don’t hold your breath for the DC sequel.

Snyder ended the Justice League on a massive cliffhanger, including the “Knightmare” scene, new characters, death of our favorite superheroes, and Batman and Joker’s interaction. The film has received massive reception and positive reviews from the fans so we might get a sequel but the chances of that happening are very low.

Here’s what Zack Snyder said about Justice League Sequel

Zack Snyder said that Justice League 2 is not happening, and as of writing, there are no plans for the DC sequel either. Fortunately, Snyder was kind enough to outline the sequel so we die-hard fans will get some kind of closure. Speaking to New York Times, Snyder said that the Earth will fall as Darkside conquers when Superman succumbs to the Anti Life Equation all because of one mistake. Then Flash is sent back in time to prevent that mistake from happening, thus saving the Earth.

Snyder elaborated that when the Darkside invades the Earth after losing the mother boxes and defeat of Steppenwolf in the first Justice League. During the events, Lex Luther obviously teams up with the villain. Meanwhile, Superman asks Batman to guard and protect Lois Lane while he fights the Darkside.

He further elaborates that “Lex tells Darkseid that the key to Superman’s weaknesses is killing Lois Lane. For whatever reason, Batman fails. Darkseid comes back and kills Lois. Batman fails; he hesitates. They were in an argument.” Basically, Batman is distracted and fails to protect Lois Lane as she is killed by Darkside.

For those who don’t know much about SnyderVerse, in the original version, while protecting Lois Lane, Batman falls in love with her. In both versions, Lois Lane is destined to die at the hands of Darkside, and Batman is once again riddled with guilt over the death of someone he knows. After Lois’s death, Superman falls to the Anti-Life Equation – old power that gives full control over anything it touches to its users (Darkside).

This is where we get a sneak-peak of the “Knightmare “ scene at the end of the first Justice League. During the ending, Batman teams up with Mera, Flash, Cyborg, Deathstroke, and Joker. By this time, Darkside has conquered the Earth, and Superman pops up to kill his former superhero friends.

During an interview with Esquire, Snyder said, the movie is basically about “a ragtag group of Justice League members pulling off a crazy mission to steal a Mother Box from this half-destroyed cathedral in Gotham and get it back to the Batcave in order to use it to power the cosmic treadmill to jump Flash back in time.” But, let’s not get our hopes up.

Basically, Justice League would have ended in the “Infinity Wars Style” with a total of three parts. When talking about Justice League 3, Synder said, “What happens in the post-apocalyptic world is, Cyborg works on an equation to use a Mother Box to jump Flash back in time to warn Bruce about this moment, where he didn’t have the courage to sacrifice himself to save Lois.”

As a result, Lois doesn’t die, and everything changes. Superman doesn’t succumb to the Anti-Life Equation. All superheroes unite again as Aquaman brings forces from Atlantis, Diana leads forces from Themyscira, and Superman and Flash lead humans against Darkside.

In his interview to the New York Times, Snyder further added: “And then the big battle where we beat [Darkseid]. When Darkseid comes to Earth, in the movie that you’ll never see, the armies of Earth all unite again, as they did before. This time there would be aircraft carriers and Special Forces guys, all the armies of the world would come together, as well as Atlanteans, rising out of the ocean and the Themyscirans coming off their island. That was our big finale. But it’s a long drum roll and guitar solo to get there.”

Bottom Line

It all seems too exciting, but chances are we might never see Justice League 2 and Justice League 3. Fortunately, Snyder was kind enough to give DC fans a good idea of what happens. But who knows, the hashtags and petitions might work, and we might get a sequel that we all need badly.

For now, you can watch Zack Snyder’s Justice League on HBO max in HD quality and relive the crazy action and superhero moments. Keep in mind that it is not available on any other streaming platform. To enhance your streaming experience, do check out these streaming secrets

Is the studio Out of Their Collective minds!!

Justice League 2 ABSOLUTELY HAS TO BE MADE!!

Why would Studio heads walk away from such a great story (And The Profits!) Unless they are IDIOTS!

  2. Cyndie Hoggatt says:

I just finished watching this epic Zack Snyder’s Justice League movie, although I am a bit confused by the whole multiverse DC/Marvel thing. I have been a fan of DC ever since my older brother would buy the comics and pass them on to me, circa 1960ish! And I never missed an episode of Superman “who can change the course of mighty rivers, bend steel in his bare hands… And who, disguised as Clark Kent, mild mannered reporter for a great metropolitan newspaper, fights a never ending battle for truth, justice and the American way.” There was nothing quite like George Reeves as he whipped off his glasses and tore apart his shirt to reveal the supersized “S” on his chest. No one ever did it better. But I digress. My compliments go to Mr. Snyder for this outstanding production, and many thanks for providing a synopsis of JL 2 and JL 3, which we may never see. Thank you.

  3. James Pence says:

The Snyder cut was far better than the alternative. I would have inserted the music scene from the Josh Wedon variant. To me that music scene was a nod back to another Snyder movie, The Watchmen which also had a kicka$$ music scene near the beginning scene.
I would love to see a sequel with Snyder at the controls, especially if it’s the one described in the article!
Who knows maybe we will get a sequel and see Martian Manhunter along with Green Lantern and just for fun throw in some members of the JSA who come out of retirement to help mankind defeat Darkseid!
    That’s my opinion anyway.

  4. Rey Nickerson says:

I believe that Justice League needs to continue… Not only for characters sake and our curiosity, but also to keep up with the Marvel Machine…. The late Stan Lee’s franchise is far surpassing the DC universe by light years… I grew up mostly DC throughout the 70’s and 80’s… I loved the DC movies so far and I hope to see DC catch up to the Marvels…

  5. Susan Denker says:

Shame for not making the movie we all wait to see!

  6. Mark Stowell says:

The question becomes how do we, as the public to whom the studios ‘should’ listen, twist their balls until they do listen…
After the bull they tried to pull to cover up Whedon’s assholishness it’s obvious they can’t be trusted, and after watching the directors cut us equally obvious that Snyder is the only choice. But studio egos and politics make it apparent that we, as fans, are going to have to force the issue to get it done.

  7. Jonathan norris says:

Warner bros is an absolute train wreck. Not only is Henry Cavil out, Affleck too. How do you start a trilogy and then not finish. This studio is absolutely pathetic. I shouldn’t be surprised having a woman ceo. I swear I will never watch another dc movie again. Ridiculous trash.

  8. Shaun Province says:

Finally a strong, entertaining foundation has been laid to move forward with and not only make a likely pile of money, but give the Marvel universe something to even give a nod too and of course…….it’s not going to happen…. I would say unbelievable except it is unfortunately not only believable, but expected.

  9. Ricardo G Gallegos says:

I had been watching, reading the comic cartoons of DC for 50 years, and I would it love to see the justice league 2 and 3., I am a big fan when it comes to DC, I remembered when I was 7 years old and going to the book store to rent the comic DC cartoons for 10 cents in my country “El Salvador ” and then superman the movie came to my life with Christopher revees as superman and I thought “OMG” superman is real!!!!

  10. Francis Coburn says:

What was the point of this re making of a story that was simply badly told in the first instance (Weedon’s Justice League) if the corporate morons are not going to go the whole hog and complete the cycle. To not complete the story makes the whole four hour retelling a pointless exercise. I am sure that it pleased a number of fans to get their way but what the heck. It would have been better to cut the teasers and not leave people hanging.

    • Mark Stowell says:

Most of the point was to highlight the corrupt stupidity (or stupid corruption) of a studio that ignores it’s paying fan base in favor of politics. The Snyder cut was worth seeing, and proof that we can collectively influence these morons to do the right thing.

  11. Randolph Holmes says:

They finally clean up the mess that was the Justice League, get good reviews, have a story worth telling, and the corporate morons don’t want to develop it. At this point I just expect stupidity so when there is a good decision made it’s a breath of fresh air.

    • ALDO G RODRIGUEZ says:

Dc will never take off from the dust of the past success into the modern era of comic movies as long as corporate morons hold the future of the franchise as they have in this last 15 years.

    • Xio says:

Yeah @Holmes.. even Leto’s scene was good in this, it redeemed his character desgin from suicide squad.
