Mixed-ish, created by the developers behind Blacki-ish, retells the young life of Blacki-ish character Rainbow Johnson and how she had to grow up in a mixed-race family in the 80s.

Rene Zellwegger stars in Netflix’s What/If, a drama about the butterfly effects caused when normal people do abnormal things. You Should Have Known stars Nicole Kidman and Hugh Grant on HBO where a therapist and mother has her life disrupted by an unexpected tragedy.

Novel adaptations for book geeks

If you’re into adaptations, then you’re in luck. Many novels were adapted to the small screen this year like Catch-22 on Hulu starring the one and only George Clooney! This show discusses the classic story of a US Air Force bombardier in World War 2. Good Omens, the famous novel by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchet on Amazon Prime, stars Michael Sheen and David Tennant as it tells the tale of how a frilly Angel and an easy-going demon become severely interested in life on Earth. Watchmen is also being adapted from the popular comic book on HBO, starring Jeremy Irons, Regina King and many more. The lovable trilogy by Phillip Pullman, His Dark Materials, is also being adapted starring James McAvoy. The CW will adapt the teen-loving detective fiction Nancy Drew this year with a modern twist.

The Great North is voiced by power comedy couple Nick Offerman and Megan Mullaly as it follows the lives of a family in Alaska. Bless the Harts has SNL veterans Kristen Wiig and Maya Rudolph lending their voice to a comedy about southerners struggling to achieve ‘the American Dream.’
