After Hours
This gem was recommended by Greg Adams, who specifically pointed out the Club Berlin scene and its connection to Franz Kafka’s The Trial. Turns out this is a connection scholars have been publishing papers about! Adams explained:
“All Franz Kafka’s The Trial stuff with “gatekeepers:” the subway token attendant and the bouncer at Club Berlin. I read The Trial frequently and clued into it immediately when I first saw After Hours. A true overlooked Scorsese dark comedy gem along with The King of Comedy.”
UHF
Sean Dolan pointed out this cult favorite, now streaming on Amazon, and how it features Michael Richards doing some proto-Kramer schtick.
“It’s funny, Micheal Richards’ character was also on the short lived Fridays comedy show and eventually morphed into Kramer on Seinfeld”
Get Crazy
David Earl recommends this rock-and-roll comedy with plenty of sex and drugs. Also stars Malcolm McDowell satirizing Mick Jagger as a rock god who has seen it all. Also includes real life cameos from some great rock starts. Try the fan-made trailer we linked to above, it gives you a glimpse of all the best moments…
