You’re finally free. The weekend has arrived and the Christmas and New Year’s are just a few days away. Time to lock yourself into your home, cuddle with a loved one and/or a fire, and get ready for some warm holiday film treats. Nothing says “warm” than a freshly opened artery gushing the blood of you and your loved ones into a bowl of festive egg-nog. While you’re attempting to stop the bleeding, how about taking in a few of these soon-to-be classic holiday horrors available now on VOD.
Krampus Origins
Film Threat Review – The Krampus is a half-goat demon, who on Christmas, penalizes children who have been bad all year. A legend of the past, this demon was reawakened by a group of orphans in Joseph Mbah and Robert Conway’s Krampus Origins. Bobby LePire says, “No forced drama or inept comedy to be found, making for a reasonably tight script.”
Slay Belles
Film Threat Review – Clearly Krampus is the demon of choice for the holidays and in Slay Belles, three cosplaying women come across the malevolent Christmas demon Krampus. The girls must team up with Santa Claus himself to battle the creature and save the world. Norman Gidney says, “The performances are infectiously naughty and fun to watch.”
Red Christmas
Film Threat Review – Nothing goes better to together with Christmas than abortion. Craig Anderson’s family home invasion thriller is the story of a family Christmas dinner with all the fixings including an enraged bastard son, hellbent on exacting justice on his “baby killing” siblings. Malik Adan says, “[Red Christmas’] uneven balance, between showing us the goods and making us think, pulls the film down in ways that make me sad.”
All The Creatures Were Stirring
Film Threat Review – This holiday horror anthology attacks traditions such as ugly sweaters and gift exchanges. Bobby LePire says “the stories that do work (90% of them) are very original, engaging, and make for a wickedly fun Christmas Eve watch after opening presents.”
Ugly Sweater Party
Film Threat Review – An ugly sweater party turns into a bloodbath when an evil Christmas sweater possesses one of the partygoers. Demons will use anything to get inside you and who would have thought the ugly sweater would be the vessel du jour? Norman Gidney says, “Ugly Sweater Party reaches those dizzying heights of high concept humor 5 minutes into the film.”
