The Sundance Institute’s inaugural Next Weekend Film Festival kicks off on August 8, 2013, with an outdoor screening, at Cinespia at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery, of Chris Smith’s documentary American Movie and doc subject Mark Borchardt’s horror film Coven. Both Smith and Borchardt will introduce their respective films. Other films playing during the Next Weekend Film Festival, taking place at venues around Los Angeles from August 8-11, 2013, include Blue Caprice, Newlyweeds and This Is Martin Bonner, with the full program also including short films and panels. WHAT: The first-ever NEXT WEEKEND film festival will kick off with an outdoor screening of Chris Smith’s iconic cult documentary American Movie and Mark Borchardt’s horror film Coven at Cinespia at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery. Mark Borchardt will introduce Coven, and Chris Smith will introduce American Movie. Sundance Institute Members will have priority admittance via a members-only line for this event at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery. This screening is co-presented with Acura.
NEXT WEEKEND, Presented by Sundance Institute will present four days of screenings, parties and artist programs that celebrate the renegade spirit of independent filmmaking. The event is an extension of the popular NEXT <=> section at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, which showcases stylistically adventurous films that take a bold approach to storytelling.
