The influence of Star Wars throughout our society is pervasive, but I hope for the love of everything that is cinematically holy, it doesn’t get as bad as shown in “Escape From Tatooine”, which mixes some of “Star Wars” with “Planet of the Apes” in the story of a space traveler and his two major quests: Get out of the stomach of Sarlacc and get the hell off the planet using whatever transport necessary which in this case, is Slave-1, a ship we all know and which some love.
But that ending. Let it remain in this film alone, to be enjoyed by fans of good parody and to be thought about by those who never considered it. Outside of the horryfing possibilities it presents, it’s a darn fine ending, created with an obvious understanding of how jarring the unexpected can be, and how well it can fit into a film when used correctly.
