Pike is a satirical neo-noir series pilot directed by Alex Klaus and starring producer/co-writer Charles Delaney, who also served as the director of photography. Delaney is British talent agent Pike (Charles Delaney), who has become disillusioned with the entertainment industry. Much of the talent he represents is selfish, egotistical, and childish. Pike blames them for a mysterious tragedy involving his wife. It doesn’t help that the entertainment industry recruits stars through social media, as talent agencies become relics from a bygone era.
Pike envisions himself going on a killing spree after hearing a rant from Scarlett (Stephanie Tripp) about not getting any solid roles. The only client he has a good relationship with is one-time James Bond actor George Lazenby (himself). But the agent is pushed to the limit when one of his clients fires him and disrespects his father. This push over the edge changes the man who is now ready to unleash vengeance.

Nick Green and Delaney’s screenplay has the tone of a Guy Ritchie film. The crass and prosy dialogue fits right into the urban pulp aesthetic. The cinematography transforms London into a murky and neon-drenched environment. Delaney’s pilot has strong potential to be a terrific series as the characters stand out with their larger-than-life personalities. Klaus brings out distinctive performances, and Tripp will surprise audiences with her complex portrayal. Scarlett has the potential to be an engaging, recurring character if the series gets picked up by a network or streaming service.
Pike will appeal to fans of Damien Chazelle’s Babylon, Billy Wilder’s Sunset Boulevard, and the many versions of A Star is Born. The concept needs to be expanded should a full series order happen. The titular character could be the next big anti-hero should this be a hit.
