Writer/director George Hickenlooper first gained major notoriety when he took us behind the scenes of Francis Ford Coppola’s Apocalypse Now in “Hearts of Darkness: A Filmmaker’s Apocalypse,” winning him an Emmy Award for directing in 1992. He then went on to make the dramatic short “Some Folks Call it a Sling Blade,” which served as the basis for the feature “Sling Blade.” His other films include “The Big Brass Ring” and “Dogtown.”
Now, following up his acclaimed The Man From Elysian Fields, George Hickenlooper sets his sights on the amazing career of Rodney Bingenheimer, KROQ’s own Rodney on the ROQ, in “Mayor of the Sunset Strip.”
Rodney Bingenheimer has been a cherished figure not only in Los Angeles, but the entire music community, for over two decades as he’s held accountable for launching the careers of such stars as David Bowie.
We got a chance to talk with George Hickenlooper about Rodney and his new documentary “Mayor of the Sunset Strip.”
