ROMAN POLANSKI SPOTTED IN LOS ANGELES

By Film Threat Staff | September 9, 2005

The American Cinematheque presents Roman Polanski: New and Classic Films at the Egyptian Theatre (September 17 – 18) and at the Aero Theatre (September 17 – 24). This series highlighted by a sneak preview of Polanski’s latest film OLIVER TWIST (2005, TriStar Pictures, 135 min.).

Coming off the Oscar-winning achievement of THE PIANIST, and his upcoming Charles Dickens adaptation OLIVER TWIST (TriStar Pictures) due in theatres in late September, director Roman Polanski is hotter than he’s been at any time since his glory years of the late 1960’s and early 1970’s, when he turned out a seemingly unstoppable series of brilliantly paranoid dramas, thrillers and black comedies, including ROSEMARY’S BABY, CUL-DE-SAC, REPULSION, THE TENANT, A KNIFE IN THE WATER and arguably his greatest masterpiece, the epochal Los Angeles noir CHINATOWN.
But has he ever really disappeared? Despite a much-publicized absence from the U.S. due to ongoing legal issues and the career ups and downs of any major director, Polanski has managed to weather the tastes of a changing public with surprising grace and nimble intelligence. Now more than ever, he’s poised to reclaim his position as one of the great post-modern directors along with Kubrick, Godard, Bergman, Fassbinder and precious few others. To celebrate the release of OLIVER TWIST, there will be a short series of some of Polanski’s greatest films(CHINATOWN, ROSEMARY’S BABY), along with a handful of his most rarely-screened gems (CUL-DE-SAC, THE TENANT, A KNIFE IN THE WATER).

Screenings are at the Lloyd E. Rigler Theatre at the historic 1922 Egyptian (6712 Hollywood Boulevard between Highland and Las Palmas) in Hollywood and at the Max Palevsky Theatre at the Aero Theatre (1328 Montana Ave) in Santa Monica.

    Do you also belive-

Do you believe Elvis P. is still alive also? Do you know how many places and times he has been spotted somewhere since he died? Good luck. He was pleaded guilty than ran. You cannot blame someone else!

  2. Amy R. Handler says:

I am interested in any new opinions about Polanski’s 33-year old sex case. His attorneys recently filed their final pleas to end the case For those determined to punish Polanski to the full extent of the law, this article written in September, 2005 is notable. If Polanski was indeed spotted in LA, why wasn’t he arrested then—28 years into the case? This case is such a mess. Yes, he was at fault 33 years ago, but so were the child’s parent(s) and/or legal guardians. Why didn’t any of them accompany this minor to the photography set?
