Modern Love feels like a leisurely stroll through New York City on a Fall day. Like any New Yorker, the new Amazon series moves at its own pace: unrushed, a bit aimless and feels completely comfortable as itself.
The eight-part series is a string of 30-minute vignettes, about people finding love in the Big Apple. Modern Love demonstrates love can be found in many forms, whether parental, romantic, sexual, or platonic. Sometimes, people are simply looking for companionship over long term commitment, in the hopes of feeling less alone in a big, crowded city that has the power to feel kinetic and frenzied, while being isolating, sometimes in the same moment.

Adapted from a New York Times column by John Carney (Once, Begin Again, Sing Street), Modern Love begins with one its best segments, starring Cristin Milioti. She plays Maggie, who is single and dating. Every guy she brings back to her apartment is subjected to the judgment of her stoic doorman Guzmin (Laurentiu Possa), who seems to be very interested in Maggie’s well-being. One of Maggie’s dates takes a turn she doesn’t expect, and she begins to realize maybe Guzmin isn’t just a pesky doorman, but her only line of support in New York.
"…a wonderful cast but the series ebb and flows in terms of the strength of each story."
